By The Hand Club For Kids is a Christian, after-school program that emphasizes academic excellence while nurturing the whole child - mind, body and soul. Individuals employed by By The Hand are working in ministerial roles and perform all or some of the following responsibilities: sharing the Gospel, teaching chapel, leading Bible studies, discipling students and modeling behavior that is consistent with Christ's teaching.Overview of Position:Reporting to the Site Director, the NXT Coach is responsible for developing and executing a shared vision for students to achieve dramatic gains spiritually and academically, with a goal of each student successfully completing high school and college. Coaches establish positive and supportive relationships with our youth. They empower them to make well thought out life choices that enable them to maximize their potential and achieve long-term success.Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Performs in a way that is consistent with the vision, mission and culture of By the Hand and commits to excellence in every aspect of the overall operation.
  • Models cultural values of By The Hand Club For Kids in day-to-day behavior.
  • Follows all policies as outlined in the operational guide, including maintaining brand standards and ensuring 100% adherence to the Child Protection Policy.
  • Works with students to establish mind, body, and spiritual goals and helps them achieve these goals by facilitating peer accountability groups and other techniques.
  • Provides students the opportunity to apply what they are learning to real life experiences so that the NXT experience is culturally relevant.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with students intentionally both inside and outside of programming.
  • Creates opportunities for student empowerment, leadership, and growth.
  • Provides outreach and in-reach by exposing NXT students to others [outreach] and making sure those participating in NXT stay focused on key goals when they are making decisions [in-reach].
  • Sustains student involvement by integrating NXT into the lives of students while taking into consideration outside influences, and obligations, both positive and negative.
  • Finds ways to tap into students' talents and experiences when designing programs and activities.
  • Works with the NXT Director to ensure students are prepared for college entrance exams, know who to apply for financial aid, receive help in completing college applications, etc.
  • Completes and implements quarterly progress reports for each student to help him/her grow in all areas of development-mind, body, soul.
  • Works to build positive relationships with parents/guardians to ensure the best overall care for each student.
  • Consistently implements new ideas and strategies to make learning fun and encourages students to do their best.
  • Meets with students individually each quarter to discuss academic progress (grades, credits, courses, and final exams.)
  • Performs other duties as required and assigned.Required Skills/Abilities:
    • A personal and saving relationship with Jesus Christ.
    • This position requires a Christ-like servant leader who has a sense of calling and who models Biblical principles.
    • Member of a Bible-believing church or an active participant in a Bible-believing church.
    • Exemplifies By the Hand core values.
    • Passion for and commitment to urban youth transformation.
    • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with youth.
    • Able to share faith with others.
    • Demonstrated ability to mentor youth and serve as a role model.
    • Special expertise in social work, restorative justice, counseling, youth pastor, or related experiences is desired.
    • Adheres to our Employee Standards of Living.
    • Fluent speaking/reading skills in both English and Spanish (preferred).Education and Experience:
      • A Bachelor's Degree in secondary education preferred.
      • 3+ years' experience working with youth in an urban context.
      • Comfortable using Google Suite (Drive, Mail, Calendar, Docs, Sheets).
      • Personal and saving relationship with Jesus Christ, evidenced by a lifestyle that demonstrates the Word of God and displays a commitment to regular fellowship with other members in a Bible believing church.Metrics:
        • 100% have a personal and saving relationship with Jesus Christ.
        • 100% attend and are involved in a local church.
        • 100% are able to share their faith with others.
        • 80% or better retention.
        • 80% or better attendance in programs in which students choose to participate.
        • 80% or better passing all their classes preferably making ABC's.
        • 90% or better college acceptance [for those pursuing college].
        • 90% or better gainfully employed in an economically self-sustaining job [if college is not pursued].Work Environment:This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopies, filing cabinets and fax machines.Physical Demands:The employee is regularly required to speak and listen. This role may require you to move equipment from room to room and lift up to 50 pounds.
