Job SummaryThe New Product Development Engineer is responsible for the research, design, and engineering of new products to add to OPTO's first class collections of standard products. From market research to trend analysis this position formulates what new design our industry is looking for that OPTO can manufacture and then designs the fixtures from concepts through prototyping. To be successful in this position you need to be innovative, creative, and analytical. Key ResponsibilitiesCreate design concept to determine most viable designsPresent product ideas to relevant team members for brainstormingEngineer concepts thought prototyping and final designsResearch and stay up to date on industry and customer trends to determine what unique solutions customers requirePerform research on product technologies to implement into design conceptsRequired Technical Skills5+ years of expertise in retail store fixture design or equivalentExtensive knowledge of designing with a wide range of materials such as wood, metal, acrylics, aluminum, glass, etc.Working knowledge and understanding of lighting, extrusion design, castings, and modular integrationBachelor's degree in Engineering or Industrial DesignProficient with 3D modeling software, preferably Autodesk InventorComputer skills including working knowledge of Excel, Word, & PowerpointAbility to problem-solve quickly and effectivelyAbility to produce under tight timelinesAbility to prioritize and work independently on multiple projects simultaneously ensuring all key dates are met while maintaining the highest level of quality.
